Office of the Prime Minister / Cabinet du Premier ministre
November 30, 2007
On behalf of the Prime Minister, I would like to thank you for your e-mail of November 12 regarding the appointment of Mr. Hubert T. Lacroix as President and Chief Executive Officer of the CBC.
Our Government is confident that the CBC will be well served under the leadership of Mr. Lacroix. As a respected lawyer, he has practiced for 30 years with three of Montreal's most prominent firms. In addition, Mr. Lacroix acquired strong credentials in the radio broadcasting and publishing industries through his involvement with Telemedia and other companies. He is well-known for his work as a television and radio sports analyst for CBC's summer Olympic broadcasts.
The Government's goal was to appoint the person most competent for the position, one who will be able to take a fresh look at our national broadcaster and chart a solid path for its future. A Crown corporation is a business and the Government wants experienced business leaders to lead its largest corporations. Please be assured that our Government is committed to ensuring that CBC/Radio Canada continues to successfully perform its vital role as a national public broadcaster.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to write.
Sincerely,
Salpie Stepanian
