Dear Ms. Rhéaume:
RE: PN CRTC 2007-1: Application 200700072 - Canada One Television (Diversity Television Inc.)
This is an intervention in support of the above application. The Commission will be aware that Friends of Canadian Broadcasting does not usually intervene in support of applicants. Canada One Television merits an exception to our usual position because it promises to fill a gap in the Canadian audio-visual system – focusing on stories drawn from Canada's diversity, and amplifying the voices of newcomers from all parts of the world, aboriginal Canadians and member of Canada's disabilities population.
While we rely upon the Commission's staff to assess the viability of the business plan of the applicant, we wish to ask that every positive consideration be extended to Canada One Television. This application refers to a future in Canada's major cities of an "urban visible majority", and promises to present the face of this new Canada on the screen and behind the camera. We endorse the focus on 8 to 10 pm and the depth of leadership, commitment and advisory bench-strength that Canada One Television brings to the table.
Because of the highly distinctive, probably unique, point of departure of Canada One Television, we urge that the Commission extend to this application your most sympathetic consideration as an exceptionally important new component in the Canadian broadcasting system.
We attach evidence that a copy of this letter has been received by the applicant.
Yours sincerely,
Ian Morrison
