CTF successes

CTF-funded shows have achieved numerous successes:
 
Domestic:
  • Little Mosque on the Prairie and Rick Mercer Report getting over a million viewers
  • Les hauts et les bas de Sophie Paquin was short-listed in the "Continuing Series" (drama) category at the 28th Banff International Television Festival and the "TV Series Comedy Category" at the 47th Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
  • Minuit, le soir won twice in 2005 and seven times in 2006 at the Prix Gémeaux. The production achieved an average audience of just under a million viewers in Quebec during its first season.
  • Trailer Park Boys is the 4th most watched program on Showcase, and the most popular Canadian program on that network (2006/07)
  • In the French market, 9 of the top 20 shows are CTF-funded (2006/07)
  • Among kids 2-11, many of the top 50 are CTF-funded  
    • 9 of the top 50 shows watched by kids in Vancouver are CTF funded shows
    • 10 of the top 50 shows watched by kids in Calgary are CTF funded shows
    • 6 of the top 50 shows watched by kids in Toronto are CTF funded shows
  • 5 out of the top 10 documentaries aired on Canadian TV in 2005-06 were CTF funded (documentaries may not generate huge numbers but inform Canadians with voices expressing our shared values)  
International:
  • Degrassi: The Next Generation and DaVinci's Inquest have huge penetration in U.S. syndication. Da Vinci's Inquest is one of the top-rated weekly series in syndication, airing on 202 stations in over 98% of the U.S.
  • Award-winning drama Cold Squad launched on Crime Watch Network in U.S. syndication in Fall 2006  
  • Little Mosque on the Prairie has sold to France, Israel and Turkey, French-speaking Africa, Quebec, Finland, Dubai, Gaza and the West Bank  
  • French distributor Midnight Media has picked up rights to The Border  
  • Ghost Trackers has sold to HBO Family planned for January 2008 launch  
  • Harry and His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs has sold to more than 85 territories worldwide and will appear as consumer products in 2008, along with a 65-plus live theatre tour  
  • Universal Studios Home Entertainment Canada has picked up DVD rights to 5 Nelvana properties. The 7 year deal includes CTF-funded shows Jane and the Dragon, Grossology and Di-Gata Defenders  
  • Disney Channel India has picked up Naturally Sadie as well as Urban Vermin  
  • In Thailand, True Visions acquired the animated series Franny's Feet  
  • Poko has sold to Hong Kong, Korea, Australia, Italy, Turkey  
  • Toopy & Binoo has sold to Italy, Estonia, Latin America, France, the Middle East, South Korea, Norway, Singapore  
  • Peter Raymont's Shake Hands with the Devil: the Journey of Roméo Dallaire won Best Documentary in the 2007 Emmy Awards; A Promise to the Dead: The Exile Journey of Ariel Dorfman is nominated for a 2007 Oscar or Academy Award  
  • Manufactured Landscapes is nominated for an Independent Spirit Award 2008 after winning Best Documentary at the Canadian Genies and Best Canadian Film at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2006  
  • France's top-rated public broadcaster, France 2, bought 26 episodes of Les hauts et les bas de Sophie Paquin for broadcast in peak viewing hours. France 2 also picked up an option on subsequent cycles.
  • Minuit, le soir received 4 prizes at the Rencontres Internationales de Télévision de Reims in 2007 – a people's choice prize for best series, two jury prizes for best series and best writing and the Ciné Cinéma auteur prize. It began airing on CinéCinéma Culte in France in the fall of 2007.  
  • François en série has sold as a format option to Malaysia, Russia, Italy, Greece, Spain, and Germany and as a pilot on NBC in the U.S.
  • CTF-funded shows receive Oscars and Emmys, and many US cable networks are deriving success from CTF funded programs.
