Re Broadcasters Face End To U.S. Gravy Train (Dec. 6):

CTV is incorrect to dismiss data from Follow the Money published last month by Friends of Canadian Broadcasting. The data we published come directly from financial summaries of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and reflect all program types, including news, sports, drama and current affairs.

They show that Canadian private conventional broadcasters have reduced their spending on Canadian programming in recent years while increasing substantially their U.S. spending. From these data, we project that their U.S. spending will exceed their Canadian spending next year.

Recent increases in federal funding for television production have financed the Hollywood buying spree of Canadian private broadcasters.
